Kothari Commission of National Education Commission (1964-66) remarked, “A sound programme of professional education of teachers is essential for the qualitative improvement of education.’’ So, the most urgent reform needed in education is to transform it, to endeavor to relate it to the life, needs and aspirations of the people and thereby to make it a powerful tool of social, economic and cultural transformation necessary for realization of our national goals.

In this transformation the teachers are the torch-bearers or the custodians of the future. Therefore, with this holistic approach of realizing the importance of teachers, Shikshan Mahavidyalaya (now, CTE), Nagaon starts its first breathing at Nagaon Bengali High School in an auspicious moment of 6th March, 1968. In 1971, the college was able to receive a land and a House Building Grant from the Government and established its own building at Jyoti Nagar, Dimaruguri, Nagaon and started its classes.

From this inception, the college has developed step by step and in 1983, the college was taken over by the Government. At present, it is only the Government B.Ed. Teacher Training institution of Nagaon District. In 1994, it surpasses the silver-jubilee year and has its pick hour for development. Now this college is upgraded to College of Teacher Education (CTE) and enhances its responsibilities in gradual procedure of preparing human resources for national benefit. I, Binita Pathak, am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to serve this institution as Principal i/c as well as to be a part of molding the human resources since 01/02/2025. From the session 2019-20, the two year regular based D.El.Ed. Course was started under SCERT, Assam. The Institution has fulfilled the required conditions and received the recognition from NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) up to further order. It has its satisfactory infrastructure with adequate experienced and qualified Teacher Educators. It has its own website too in the keen initiative of Assamlook.com.
I wish from the bottom of my heart that this institution may prosper and able to maintain its age-old glory in producing and molding wise teacher with accountability as well as emerge as a centre of excellence.
